Infrastructure or Collaboration? Advancing In Silico Medicine Together
24/04/2026
Avicenna Days (AAD) 2026 - The Research & Technology Working Group
The Research & Technology Working Group session at AAD 2026 will bring together key stakeholders across academia, industry, and clinical practice to explore a central question: do we need more infrastructure, or more collaboration to advance in silico medicine?
This session will feature perspectives from high-performance computing, commercial software, start-ups, and clinical and academic research.Invited speakers include Maria Ángeles Pérez, who will present her work in oncology; Nirnith Devireddy, who will share insights from his leadership in Artificial Intelligence; and Vincenzo Carbone, PhD, who will discuss developments within VHTnet and related initiatives. Nele Famaey and Heleen Fehervary will present the C4Bio initiative, highlighting findings from its global effort to address variability in the experimental characterization of biological tissues, and outlining next steps toward improved standardization and coordinated research. Each speaker will conclude with reflections on the role of the Avicenna Alliance in advancing their respective domains. The session will culminate in a discussion on how the Avicenna Alliance and the VPH Society can further strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, tackle precompetitive challenges, and align research priorities to accelerate the adoption and impact of in silico approaches.
