Join us for a keynote teaser at Avicenna Days (AAD) 2026
22/04/2026
At Avicenna Days 2026, Prof. Oscar Camara, Director of the Engineering School at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Barcelona, will explore how Virtual Human Twins are moving from long-standing vision to clinical reality.
In his keynote, “From old dreams to current reality in Virtual Human Twins: large-scale in silico trials, drug–device modelling, and the heart-brain axis,”Prof. Camara will take us through the remarkable evolution of Virtual Human Twins—from early pioneering work in projects like euHeart to today’s rapidly maturing clinical applications.
From large-scale in silico trials in ~300 patients undergoing left atrial appendage occlusion, to the coupling of computational fluid dynamics with drug PK/PD models, this keynote showcases how digital patient models are reshaping both MedTech and Pharma.
A major highlight is the emerging computational heart–brain axis, linking cardioembolic and neurovascular modelling into a unified framework for therapy optimization.
This talk offers a forward look at how Virtual Human Twins are becoming a practical tool for truly personalized, system-level medicine—and what still needs to be solved to make them routine in clinical and industrial use.
