Commission participates to international In Silico Toxicology Protocol initiative
The European Commission’s Joint Research Center (JRC) Directorate published on 22 November an article highlighting that JRC scientists are part of the international In Silico Toxicology (IST) Protocol initiative developing principles and protocols for the consistent use of computational models in chemical safety assessment to promote greater acceptance in regulatory applications.
Health Tech Industry roundtable meeting discussed EU Digital Health Agenda
On 15 October, a high-level roundtable meeting, organised by European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel and European Commission Director-General for Communications Networks (DG CNECT), bringing together public and private representatives of the European Health Tech Industry took place in Brussels. The invitees exchanged views on the vision for the future and the digital transformation of health and care, outlined in the Commission’s strategy "Enabling the Digital Transformation of Health and Care the Digital Single Market", to which they can contribute.
EU invests €1 billion in world-class European supercomputers
The Competitiveness Council (Council of Ministers) of the European Union adopted a Regulation to establish a Joint Undertaking of European High Performance Computing (EuroHPC). To support this effort, €1 billion will be invested by the European Commission and Member States in building world-class supercomputers infrastructure by 2020. Private contributions will also add in to this public funding.
More EU Member States join the 'Genomics Declaration'
On 21 September Croatia signed to join the European declaration on genomic data sharing. The Member State follows in the footsteps of Austria and Greece, which signed the declaration quite recently. The project aims to create a comprehensive platform for cross-border genetic data sharing and could be of interest for clients working with personalised medicine and rare or genetic diseases.
