Avicenna Alliance Glossary of Terms for Computer Modelling and Simulation - Fifth Release

There are occasional inconsistencies and differing interpretations in the use of certain in silico concepts within the literature, which may lead to misunderstandings. To enhance clarity, a group of academic and industry members of the Avicenna Alliance has developed a set of definitions for terms commonly used in the in silico domain. The definitions included in this glossary reflect a consensus among our members and aim to provide a shared understanding of the terminology used in our publications. We acknowledge that alternative definitions may exist and welcome feedback, as these definitions are expected to evolve over time.

This Glossary represents the fifth release, featuring an expanded list of terms, including an updated definition of Digital Evidence (i.e., In Silico Evidence). Additional concepts will continue to be introduced, and existing definitions may be refined in future updates.

Computational Modeling and Simulation of Medical Devices - Book Release

The medical device industry is increasingly adopting computational modeling and simulation (CM&S) throughout the product life cycle—from early-stage design and prototyping to regulatory submissions and post-market performance evaluation. A key challenge across all these applications is establishing whether a model is sufficiently credible to support (regulatory) decision-making. The ASME V&V 40 standard, published in 2018, introduced a risk-based framework for assessing model credibility and has gained broad acceptance across the industry.
