Avicenna provides input to the European Parliament Special Committee on Beating Cancer
Early March, the Avicenna Alliance had the opportunity to provide the European Parliament’s Committee on Cancer, with inputs on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the cancer field through an online survey. Avicenna members therefore provided a common response to the survey to explain how computer modelling and simulation can revolutionize cancer care in Europe.
The European Commission decides upon the orientations for Horizon Europe Programme
On 15 March the Commission published the Strategic Plan 2021-2024 for Horizon Europe. The Plan outlines the strategic orientations which will guide investments under the first four years of Horizon Europe’s execution. Accordingly, the Plan guarantees that its research and innovation (R&I) actions contribute to EU priorities and that investment allocation is done adequately.

On 24 February, the Avicenna Alliance has submitted its feedback on the creation of a European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) aiming to ensure a solid framework for EU preparedness and response to serious cross-border health threats.
The European Commission published its Beating Cancer Plan
On 3 February the European Commission published its much-awaited Beating Cancer Plan. The Plan develops proposals and key initiatives for each stage of the disease, remarking the role that research, innovation and new technologies play in the fight against cancer.
Alliance provides feedback on the creation of a European Health Data Space
On 3 February, the Avicenna Alliance has submitted its feedback to the inception impact assessment on the European Health Data Space. With this feedback, Avicenna Members provided the Commission with guidance on how to ensure access to data, the interoperability of data and more importantly on which technical developments can enable us to turn the health data into actionable information, including in silico and AI techniques.
